In response to the column, Jeff Burnstein, president of the Association for Advancing Automation, wrote a blog post that casts a clearer light on the positive role of robots and how they don’t steal jobs.

We are required to obtain various governmental permits to conduct exploration at our properties. Obtaining the necessary governmental permits is often a complex and time-consuming process involving numerous U.S., state, and local agencies. The duration and success of each permitting effort is contingent upon many variables not within our control. Currently, several months are generally required to obtain the necessary permits required to conduct small-scale drilling operations. The failure to obtain certain permits or the adoption of more stringent permitting requirements could have a material adverse effect on our business, operations, and properties in that we may not be able to proceed with our exploration program which will result in the loss of your investment.

I think TiVo is a good citizen. I don’t see a problem with someone who’s using linux on a closed platform, is they are making available the code of the GPL modified software. And they do give back all the code of the GPL softwares.

So now Freud, already known for its excellent bits and (if you’ve got a keen eye) equally excellent Diablo blades, has introduced these seven new bits for smaller CNC machines doing detailed and decorative work. I might be wrong, but since the layer/wrapper between kernel and binary driver is open source it’s not like it will be this much of a problem. NVidia drivers installer can compile this layer against custom kernels (but has some precompiled ones for major distros/kernels too).
